Satanist reveals what they do at Christmas; says there's nothing christian about Christmas

A satanist, John Wait, 46, is part of the Church of Rational Satanism based in UK, and he revealed how he and his fellow believers practice their faith, and what he does at this time of year.

And John doesn't believe there's anything wrong with him celebrating Christmas as a Satanist.
"There's nothing Christian about Christmas," he said.

"In the Bible it specifically says you're not allowed to take trees into your house. The whole of Christmas is a pagan festival.
"Christmas was timed to coincide with the Saturnalia and the winter solstice. Christmas trees are pagan, cooking and carving the turkey comes from a sacrificial ritual."

John, who says he an atheist got interested in The Satanic Bible and the book opened his eyes to the importance of enjoying your life, and engaging with the philosophical side of Satanism.

He says Satanists understand that Christmas is about indulgence — about having plenty of food and drink — and not abstaining from what you want to do.

But what do you get a Satanist for Christmas? John says he and his other Satanists have their very own "Secret Satan" where they buy each other gifts.

He won't reveal what he bought his Secret Satan, but says people often buy each other Satan-related gifts.

One year he bought a fellow Satanist an initiation gift. It was a length of rope, the same length as the person's height, from where the expression "measure of a man" is taken.

John believes that if you read the Bible, it shows that the Devil was not a bad person, because he stood up to God after he killed millions of people.

He says that Satanism is about having an open mind, loving tradition and practicing ritual.
