In ancient Europe, the satanic priest goes into a village and goes up to a house at random, puts a mark on a door and asks the household to provide their youngest child for sacrifice to Samhain, god of Death. If the parents refuse, they burn down the house. Today it is called trick-or-treating.
Costuming
First done by the Druids to keep them from being recognized by the roaming spirits by deceiving the spirits into thinking they are one of them.
In the past, the remains of the sacrificed children are made into candles and put it into skulls or a large gouge. Today, pumpkins have replaced the skulls. They are carved into jack-o-lanterns and placed outside the house as a kind of talisman to ward off evil.
They believe if they point this grinning face outward, it will be a sign to the demons to leave their house alone. These symbols, though look harmless, have a power on their own. They have the power to draw demonic spirits.
People kneel around a tub of water filled with apples, trying to be the first person to get an apple without their hands. They do it to obtain favor with the evil spirits.
Celts believed that the presence of spirits made it easier to predict the future. Witches also try communicating with the dead on Halloween night. Today, people play divination games to know their future.
Halloween is actually from the 29th to 31th. 30th Oct is called the devil's night.
