God wanted to test Israel to expose what was in their hearts, so He asked Moses to send out spies from each tribe of Israel into the land He was *giving* them. In other words, the land was as good as theirs (from God's perspective), but were they (Israel) ready for it? *For the mission to be successful (for Israel to take hold of what is already theirs), God needed Israel to see the situation through His eyes*. The spies came back with the two different reports (good and bad) at the ratio of 2:10. Joshua and Caleb reported, "We are well able..." and the 10 spies reported, "We are not able..." One situation, two different perspectives. What happened? The difference lies in how they *chose to see* the situation and what they *chose to focus* on in that situation. The 10 spies weighed the situation against themselves and saw defeat, but Joshua and Caleb weighed the situation against their God and saw victory.
